Wanderers end Faversham’s unbeaten run

A dominant Wanderers performance saw them ease past a Faversham team that came to Westhumble in excellent form and unbeaten in 2017.
Tom Tolfrey and Sam Beard returned to the starting line-up and only Tom Summerfield (hamstring) was missing from Wanderers 17 man squad, emphasising Manager Marc White’s recent comments that he feels his team is through the worse of their difficult patch, and with a fully fit squad to choose from Wanderers for the first time are getting back to the strength in depth they enjoyed during the early part of the season.
In truth the game was a very one-sided affair, with Wanderers dominating possession yet not creating enough clear cut chances due to the strong resolve of the Faversham backline.
It was ironic that the game was to be decided from the penalty spot when Giuseppe Sole predictably slotted home after yet another Matt Briggs powerful run resulted in the Faversham left-back Jamie Maxted hauling down the winger.
This resulted in Faversham having their best spell of the game, but they were to have no clear cut chances as (in particular) Wanderers Ben Dyett and Dean Hamlin were exemplary in defence.
Manager Marc White said: “Nobody could argue that we were extremely comfortable today. It’s another performance that has moved us forward, and we’re clearly on the upgrade having taken 7 points from the last 9 against two top 6 clubs and the leagues form team. It’s great to have the large proportion of our squad available again, and this should stand us in good stead for the next few weeks”.
Wanderers are next in league action this Wednesday when they welcome Chipstead FC in the Ryman South (7.45pm kick-off).

Subs: Giuseppe Sole, Jake Beecroft, Gareth Chendlik, Dean Gunner, Dan Mahoney
