Philpot and Chendlik Out For Season
Posted: 28th March 2018
Defender Isaac Philpot and striker Gareth Chendlik are both expected to miss the remainder of the season following injuries sustained in last night’s Mole Valley derby with Leatherhead.
Philpot was substituted after just twenty minutes and has now been confirmed as having a broken ankle, while Gareth Chendlik was withdrawn at half time with a torn hamstring.
Responding to the news, manager Marc White says, “In the short term, it was obviously a blow to our game plan and stopped us making the substitutions we had wanted for the second half. But, more importantly, it’s obviously a big blow for the squad and for both players.
“Isaac and Gareth are great lads who have worked hard to take their chances this season. Isaac grew up in Dorking and returned to the town last summer after Univeristy. He had to bide his time, but has steadily established himself as a regular member of the defence, making 40 appearances, and was voted Player of the Month for January.
“Gareth Chendlik is never anything other than totally professional and hard working and has quietly become one of our top scorers with ten goals so far this season. It’s disappointing for them both and they’ll be a big loss with a busy final month of the season coming up.”
On a more positive note, there’s better news with the return of winger Matt Briggs, ahead of schedule, following the serious facial injuries he sustained at Burgess Hill in January, which required surgery and led to the abandonment of the game.
Briggs came on as a substitute for fifteen minutes against Merstham last weekend and played another half an our against Leatherhead.
“It’s early days, but Matt doesn’t look too far off a return to full fitness,” says the manager.
“We can’t underestimate the difference he’ll make in giving us an outlet with his pace. For that, and of course for other reasons, we’ll all be pleased to see him back.”
Matt Briggs is expected to be part of the squad over Easter as Dorking Wanderers visit league leaders Dulwich Hamlet on Good Friday, before hosting bottom club Burgess Hill Town at Westhumble on Easter Monday at 3pm.
