Star winger Briggs extends contract with Dorking Wanderers
Posted: 5th October 2017
Dorking Wanderers’ Young Player of the Year Matt Briggs has today signed a new contract with the club. Free scoring wing back Briggs has put pen to paper on a deal that will see Wanderers retain his services until at least 2019.
Briggs has started the season for newly promoted Dorking in spectacular form, with 8 goals and the August Player of the Month award already under his belt. As expected this form has drawn attention from several league clubs, with scouts regularly watching Wanderers’ games both home and away. It’s no surprise therefore that the club were keen to tie down their star asset, a point that was reinforced by Manager Marc White: “I’m delighted that Matt has extended his contract with us, as is everyone within the club. He’s been in fantastic form this season which as expected has led to interest from league clubs who we have been in dialogue with on several occasions”.
White continued, “Ultimately this contract extension has been put in place to protect both parties. Matt is the most valuable player outside of the football league that I’m aware of, and we will only let him go for the right deal for both club and player. Matt is not only a great player but he’s also very popular within the club. He works hard in training and contributes to the club off the pitch as well as on it, and despite the interest in him he’s remained completely focused on Dorking Wanderers. This is testament to how grounded Matt is, and the great family he has behind him”.
Dorking Wanderers fans will next be able to see Briggs in action tomorrow night, when Dorking Wanderers visit Met Police in the Bostik Premier League (7.45pm kick-off).
