Wanderers return to winning ways
Posted: March 8th 2017
Wanderers comfortably collected all 3 points with a routine away victory at struggling Molesey on Tuesday night. Once again it was the highly rated Matt Briggs that assisted one and scored twice as the title contender’s secured victory away from home.
The opening goal saw a returning to full fitness Tom Tolfrey smartly volley home a deep cross from Briggs, before a plethora of good chances were missed, as Wanderers dominated large chunks of possession.
The home side were not without their own chances, as Wanderers dominant possession left them open to counter attacks, and due to the lack of chances taken Wanderers had Slav Huk to thank for leading at half time, with the Wanderers stopper making a fine one-on-one save from Molesey’s Joe Nwoko.
In the second half Wanderers appeared to tighten up the defensive openness shown in the first half, and the game appeared more comfortable. Wanderers pressed for the decisive second goal, which came courtesy of Matt Briggs in the 62nd minute following a trademark run and smart finish.
A deflected Craig Lewington goal gave the hosts some temporary hope, before Matt Briggs completed his brace and secured all 3 points for the visiting side.
Manager Marc White said: “It was a pleasing return to winning ways. We’re in good form generally, with 6 wins in the last 7 games, and the aim is to stay focused for what looks like is going to be a close run in”.
Wanderers are next in league action next Saturday (18th March) when they visit Sittingbourne in the Ryman Division One South (3pm kick-off).
