Local Design Student Gives Wanderers a New Look Ahead of the New Season

Posted: 15th June 2017

Dorking Wanderers are set to move to the newly constructed Meadowbank Stadium during their Maiden season in step 3 football, and to commemorate they have today announced a new club badge.

The badge was inspired by designer Oliver Dell (pictured below), a local football enthusiast who was brought up in Dorking and attended St Paul’s and Ashcombe Secondary School. Impressed by the progress Wanderers have made through the non-league pyramid, Oliver contacted the club towards the end of last season to suggest an update to commemorate their pending move.

He said: “I contacted Dorking Wanderers because it was clear they were in the process of taking a big step forward, and I felt the club needed a stronger identity to take with them. Wanderers were on the up and the whole community behind the club deserved a badge they could be proud of”.

Dell continued: “I spent some time coming up with ideas for a new badge to give the club a strong, proud identity, and the club were kind enough to look at them. There were lots of discussions and we worked very hard on bringing together a badge that represented the ambitions of the club. I’m proud of what we have achieved in attempting to bring together modern styles with the timeless feel that is important for football club badges”.

The club are delighted with their new badge, and are looking forward to seeing it on show both at the ground and on kit and merchandise this coming season. Club Director Kris Lea said: “After several successful years playing at Westhumble we felt that it was fitting that the club had a badge that was more representative of our new home in the centre of Dorking, and Oliver has achieved this with a relevant, stylish design that I’m sure our players and fans will be proud to wear from this coming season”.

With the club introducing both a Development and Ladies side this season, along with a new Academy teaching BTEC Level 3 in Sport, the badge will appear on an unprecedented number of kits for the Wanderers. Furthermore, the club will shortly be launching a new range of merchandise that fans will be able to purchase both online and at the ground.
