Premier League Stars Coming To Meadowbank

Posted: 13th February 2018

Former Premier League stars are in line to play at the new Meadowbank Stadium, following fixture rescheduling announced today by Dorking Wanderers.

Home and away fixtures between Dorking and Billericay Town have been reversed, meaning that Wanderers will travel to Essex on Thursday 15th March, with the league leaders now arriving at  Meadowbank on Tuesday 17th April.

It had been thought that Wanderers’ home game with Billericay would have to be played at Westhumble following the month-long delay to the opening of Meadowbank, announced last week by Mole Valley District Council. But the rescheduling ensures the big match will still be able to be held in Dorking’s new state-of-the-art town centre home, as well as helping with Billericay’s severe fixture congestion caused by a number of successful cup runs.

Billericay Town, backed by Essex steel magnate Glenn Tamplin, have made national headlines this year with their stated intention of reaching the Football League within five years. Their star-studded squad this season includes ex-Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant and former Tottenham and Fulham midfielder Jamie O’Hara, as well as Northern Ireland international Kevin Foley and the Bostik League’s leading scorer Jake Robinson who has more than 40 goals including six hat-tricks to his name this season.

Dorking Wanderers Vice-Chairman Jeremy Pain says, “BIllericay are favourites to win the league and playing them in mid-April, in the business end of the season, will be a big game. So it really needs to be on the best possible stage and I'm delighted that we’re going to be hosting it at Meadowbank now.”

He continues, “After the opening game against Leatherhead at the end of March, this is going to be another hugely enjoyable night out in the new stadium for people in and around Dorking. I’m sure it’ll be another big crowd coming into town.”

Existing tickets for the game remain valid for its new date of 17th April.

Meanwhile, tickets are on sale now for both the opening game against Leatherhead on 27th March and the Billericay game three weeks’ later via www.dorkingwanderers.com. Tickets are proving extremely popular with the opening game expected to sell out, so supporters are advised to buy soon to avoid missing out.
