RAMSGATE MATCH REPORT
Wanderers continue good form
Posted: February 27th 2017
Wanderers great run of recent form continued with a comfortable victory against a resurgent Ramsgate team that recently have produced some eye catching results of their own, and are a team on the up under the leadership of new manager Lloyd Blackman.
The away side predictably worked extremely hard to nullify Wanderers footballing tactics, but found Wanderers back four in terrific form once more. Indeed, during the first period Wanderers were seeing less of the ball than they would be used to, due to good pressing from the Ramsgate attack (and frequent use of dangerous long balls) which were designed to put Wanderers on the back foot. However, Wanderers remained a constant threat on the counter attack, with the ever improving Tom Tolfrey, Matt Briggs and James McShane looking extremely lively.
The deadlock was broken when a deep cross from Briggs was headed down by Dean Gunner and coolly slotted home by top scorer James McShane. The game ebbed and flowed in a similar fashion to the opening exchanges before Ben Dyett impressively extended Wanderers lead with an excellent 25 yard strike low into the corner.
In the second half Wanderers performed better than the first, creating several chances as the hard working Ramsgate team appeared to slightly run out of steam. However, none of the familiar Wanderers faces could find a way onto the scoresheet, and it was left to Club Captain Chris Boulter to head home and seal the victory from a corner.
Manager Marc White said: “I’m mostly pleased today with the result rather than the performance, but based on Ramsgate’s previous last 8 games that’s a solid 3 points. Looking at the league table now it appears to be a two horse race for the title, and we’re delighted to be a part of that”.
Wanderers are next in action on Tuesday night when they visit Chertsey Town FC in the Quarter Final of the Surrey Senior Cup (7.45pm kick-off).
