Tommy Turns a New Leafe
Posted: 21st August 2017
Dorking Wanderers striker Tommy Hutchings has gone on a short term loan to Bostik South Division club Whyteleafe, as he steps up his comeback from serious injury that has kept him out of the game for more than a year.
Tommy, who provides an imposing physical presence for Wanderers upfront, suffered severe cruciate ligament damage two seasons ago and has just begun playing again, starting all three fixtures of the new campaign.
Explaining the decision to let the experienced ex-Leatherhead and Merstham forward go out on loan, manager Marc White says, “Tommy is going to be a very important player for Dorking Wanderers this season, as shown by the fact that he’s started every game so far.
“But we can't ignore that he's had a very serious injury and we need to be patient, getting him back to maximum fitness. Like any player recovering from injury, it takes minutes on the pitch to build up sharpness. So Tommy and I have talked over the weekend and agreed that getting him to his best as soon as possible needs a short period out on loan, just one Division lower, where he can hopefully get all the game time he requires.”
The loan to Whyteleafe will run to the end of September and comes at a time when Dorking Wanderers have an otherwise fully available squad, with forward Giuseppe Sole back from suspension on Saturday - a big factor in the manager’s decision to agree a short term loan for Tommy Hutchings.
“Even when short of match fitness, we've seen Tommy running at defenders and frightening them, as well as creating openings through his intelligent play,” says Marc White, “so we’re looking forward to Him returning to Dorking in late September, and playing his part in an important and exciting season for the progress of our club.”
