Top Surrey Coach joins Dorking as Wanderers Commit to Young Local Talent

Posted: 30th May 2018

One of the FA’s leading coaches for Surrey has joined Dorking Wanderers as the club makes a firm commitment to develop local talent for the first team.

Peter Augustine has been appointed Head Coach of a new Under 23 team for Dorking, putting in place the final piece of the club’s player pathway and ensuring the best local players have maximum opportunity to progress and represent their home town in the first team.

As a football coach, Peter Augustine is hugely experienced and influential. He holds UEFA’s prestigious A Licence for coaching, and works full time for the Football Association as a County Coach Developer, supporting coaches and their training throughout Surrey. In the past, he has run the Academy at National League club Hampton and Richmond Borough, as well as managing and coaching at a number of non-league clubs.

“As someone who develops coaches, it’s important that I keep my hand in with coaching work and, as the club that’s local to where I live, the role at Dorking is a perfect fit,” explains Peter.

“After speaking to the club, I’ve been convinced that it wants to do things properly and, of course, the new facility at Meadowbank can’t be beaten. Who wouldn’t want to coach on the fantastic 3G pitch there? I’m really looking forward to putting the coaching ideas I teach into practice and helping to develop local players.”

Peter Augustine joins a newly formed Under 23 set up that replaces the current Dorking Wanderers Development squad, filling the gap between Under 18 football and the senior side. The new team will compete in the Combined Counties League Division One, the sixth tier of the non-league game, ensuring young players gain experience of competitive football against men’s first teams at an early age, three tiers below Dorking’s Bostik Premier League side.

Existing development coach Simon Coffey, who is well known in local youth football, takes on the role of Under 23s Manager and the new team’s staff is completed by Jordan Clark, who will coach alongside his role as head of the club’s Academy.

Welcoming the new squad and coaching staff, first team manager Marc White says, “The move to Meadowbank puts Dorking Wanderers firmly at the heart of the town and we’re determined to ensure that all young local players who are good enough have every possible opportunity to fulfill their potential and play for Dorking at this fantastic stadium in the years to come.

“I’d particularly like to welcome Peter Augustine to the club. He comes with an incredible reputation for developing young footballers and will be a huge asset as we look to bring through local players.

“With the youth set up and other local grassroots clubs feeding into the Under 18s and Academy, and those teams working closely with the new Under 23s playing a good standard of non-league football at Meadowbank, Dorking now has a clear pathway for young players to progress.”

Any players interested in playing for the Dorking Wanderers Under 23s in the Combined Counties League next season are invited to email to book a place on trials taking place at the new Meadowbank stadium on Tuesday 5th June at 7:30pm.
