Ex AFC Wimbledon Midfielder Lewis Taylor signs for Dorking Wanderers
Posted: 18th October 2017
Dorking Wanderers have today announced the high profile signing of former AFC Wimbledon and Margate professional Lewis Taylor.
Croydon born Midfielder Taylor joins the club from fellow Bostik Premier League side Kingstonian, where he has scored 6 goals this season. Prior to Kingstonian he played for Margate, where he was the supporters' Player of the Year in the 2015/16 season.
Taylor began his career in the youth system at Fulham and enjoyed two spells with AFC Wimbledon. He’s had spells at other clubs including Whyteleafe, Carshalton and Tonbridge, for whom he scored the winning goal in their 4-3 win over Lowestoft in the Ryman League Premier Division play-off final in 2010/11.
As expected Manager Marc White is delighted to add Taylor to his Wanderers squad. He said, “We’ve tracked Lewis for some time. He’s local to Dorking and has a significant amount of experience, most notably at AFC Wimbledon and Margate. He’s a high goal scoring central midfielder and his experience is going to help take the club forward. We are looking to develop the existing squad to take it to the next era, and inevitably we will need to make improvements as and when required in order to do so”.
White continued, “Lewis has signed an 18 month contract to the end of next season which signifies both his and the clubs intention to evolve. We must remember that we’re a club that’s been promoted 10 times in only 18 years and we’re always looking to progress the club and move forward. Lewis’s signing, combined with when we finally get a fully fit squad, should make us very competitive in this division”.
Taylor himself is excited about joining Dorking Wanderers. He said, “I’m really looking forward to this new challenge. I’m at a stage of my career where it’s good to be involved in a local project with a club that has a history of success. The new stadium excites me as does the clubs ambition, and I’m confident that I can bring something to the team for the rest of this season and beyond”.
Taylor goes straight into the Dorking squad that plays Needham Market at Westhumble this Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
