Tom Richards Signs For Wanderers As Dan Walker Departs

Posted:  17th July 2018

Dorking Wanderers are pleased to announce the signing of 23 year old winger Tom Richards from Leatherhead.

Tom makes the short journey from Fetcham Grove to Meadowbank to become Dorking’s fifth summer signing. The move comes after Dan Walker asked to be released from his contract for personal reasons.

Walker was a January signing from Billericay Town and quickly established himself with his pace and skill, scoring six times in 21 appearances. However, following a house move to the other side of Milton Keynes, it has become difficult for him to continue his part-time football career in Dorking.

Manager Marc White says, “We wish Dan all the best. He was on a two-year contract but, as much as he loves playing for us and believes in the project we’re building at Meadowbank, it clearly wasn't going to be good for us or for him to be training and playing here while living so far away.

“He asked to be released from his contract if we could find a replacement and we’re extremely fortunate to have secured the services of Tom Richards.”

Guildford-born Richards joins Dorking after a successful season at Leatherhead, having previously played at three professional clubs. He began his career at Fulham where he played for the Under 21s before making his senior debut in League Two as a 19 year old on loan at AFC Wimbledon. He then signed for Aldershot Town in the National League Premier Division.

“Tom’s hugely experienced at higher levels of the game for someone of his young age,” says Marc White.

“He’s left footed, which is good as we’re a bit short of natural left sided players, but he can play on left or the right either as an attacking winger or a full-back, so he's an excellent addition to our ranks.”

Tom Richards is the second player to join Dorking from Leatherhead this summer, following in the footsteps of Niall McManus.

He goes into the squad for tonight’s prestigious pre-season fixture with Sutton United, the historic first home match to be played at Dorking’s new Meadowbank stadium. Kick off is 7:45pm with tickets still available via www.dorkingwanderers.com or on the gate.
